KABB-TV ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Engineering Department provides technical support for all departments of KABB-TV and KMYS-TV. Both stations operate from the same building, located at 4335 NW Loop 410 in San Antonio. The building is equipped with five control rooms and two studios.

KABB-TV's program feed is beamed from the studio to the transmitter facility via a studio-to-transmitter (STL) microwave link on a 7 GHz frequency. The transmitting tower is approximately 1,500 feet high. It is located 17 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio near Elmendorf Texas.

KABB-TV is licensed to transmit an analog signal with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 5,000,000 watts visual. Programming is broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Program audio is broadcast in stereo.

KABB-TV provides programming to AT&T U-verse, Time Warner Cable and Grande Cable in the San Antonio area with a direct fiber optic feed. All other cable systems receive KABB-TV with an over-the-air antenna located at their headend. Most cable viewers will find KABB-TV on Channel 11. KABB-TV is available on some satellite systems. If you are considering the installation of a satellite dish, you will need to set-up an antenna for over-the-air reception of KABB-TV or subscribe to it if your provider is DirecTV or Dish Network. DTV
KABB-TV is broadcasting a digital signal on Channel 30 aka 29-1. KABB-DT will co-exist with Channel 29 during the transition from analog broadcasting. We are excited about the higher quality and extra services that are possible with digital transmission.

STUDIO FACILITY INFORMATION

TAPE FORMATS
KABB-TV supports the following tape formats for production, programming, and commercial playback: Betacam SP, DVC PRO, and DVD. The station does not accept commercials or programming on ¾-Inch U-matic, 1 inch tape, and VHS.

PROGRAMMING and COMMERCIAL PLAYBACK SYSTEM
Station programming and commercial breaks air directly from an HD Omneon video server controlled by Sundance automation system.

EDIT FACILITIES
KABB-TV's editing facilities are non-linear computer-based systems configured with Avid editors. The primary production format is DVC-Pro.

UPLINK FACILITIES
KABB-TV is connected to Westar, CNN, and Vyvx fiber optic network or an off-site uplink facility. The transmission of special feeds from KABB-TV can be arranged through these providers.

DOWNLINK FACILITIES
KABB-TV satellite systems include three steerable C-Band downlinks, three fixed C-Band downlinks, two steerable C/Ku-Band downlink, and one fixed Ku-Band downlink.

COMMERICAL DELIVERY SYSTEMS
The station is connected with Vyvx, high definition DG Systems, and PathFire.
