Cynthia Lee

Cynthia has an unusual career story. She never aspired to become a television news broadcaster. Her life long dream was to become a doctor. She worked in a doctor's office through high school and college. She went on medical missionary trips to Honduras. She was pre-med at SMU in Dallas for 2 years. So what changed her mind? She says: organic chemistry.

A chance lunch with a friend the summer before Cynthia's junior year in college gave her the idea to apply for a television internship and so the story goes.

Cynthia is a small town girl who grew up in Seguin. She graduated #3 in her class from Seguin High School with an academic scholarship to Southern Methodist University. Cynthia graduated early from SMU with a degree in English and specialization in creative writing. She was nominated for departmental recognition in English her senior year. Cynthia minored in music. She is a professional pianist.

Since Cynthia did not study communications in college, she gained her experience in television hands-on. She completed internships at WFAA and KXAS in Dallas. She landed her first on-air television job in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1997 where she worked as a general assignments reporter, photographer, assignments editor and fill-in anchor. Besides working for KATC in Lafayette, Cynthia also co-hosted radio morning shows for KSIG and KQIS. She also served as news director for those two stations. Cynthia's dual career in television and radio earned her recognition in the magazine Acadiana Woman. She also made national television on ABC news for her coverage of Hurricane Danny in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Cynthia returned to her home state of Texas in 1998 when she joined Fox 29's News Team. She is currently the weekday co-anchor. Cynthia is the 2008 recipient of the Edna McGaffey Media Excellence Award by the Association for Women in Communications, the 2008 La Prensa Foundation Media Award, the 2008 Associated Press award winner for "Best News Series" and the 2007 recipient of "Best Broadcast News Personality" by The San Antonio Media Alliance chapter of American Women in Radio & Television. Cynthia was also the 2007 choice emcee for "Partners for Change" - an event involving Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Outside of work, Cynthia - as she would say - 'never sleeps.' She is a member of The Association for Women in Communications, an 8 year member of the Junior League of San Antonio where she has served on marketing council and corporate development. Cynthia's efforts earned her an 'Applause Award' for Junior League in 2007. Cynthia is also a member of her sorority alumni association: Kappa Alpha Theta where she has served as Rush recommendations chair for young San Antonio girls attending SMU. Cynthia is on the Westside's Good Samaritan Community Services Council where she helps recruit new volunteers. In the meantime, Cynthia is a kickboxing aerobics instructor for Spectrum Clubs. She's been teaching since 2000. Cynthia is a Fitness/Fashion model for Guillermo Velez Photography in Blue Star. She's featured in the May 2008 issue of C San Antonio Magazine. Cynthia is a regular blood donor for The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center. She is also an avid runner. She's completed two ½ marathons: Austin in 2004 and Las Vegas in 2006. And - Cynthia is currently competing for the 2009 Fiesta Royalty title of "Queen of the Vine." It's a fundraiser for Brighton School.
